Indian Motorcycle History

Indian Motorcycle is an American motorcycle brand founded in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1901. The brand's founder, George Hendee, was a racing cyclist famous for the speed and durability of his motorcycles. The brand became one of the leading brands in the motorcycle industry in the United States in the early 20th century.

During the First World War and the Second World War, Indian Motorcycle supplied motorcycles to the US military. During this time, Indian motorcycles became an excellent tool for military operations. Also, many American motorcycle racers preferred Indian motorcycles.

In the 1930s, Indian Motorcycle started to produce motorcycles by combining parts of other manufacturers instead of producing their own designs. As a result, the brand faced economic difficulties in the late 1940s and went bankrupt in 1953.

But in 1999, British billionaire Stuart Garner bought the brand and revived it. In the early 2000s, the Brand started to produce motorcycles redesigned with modern technologies.

Indian Motorcycle is known today for its popular models that combine classic style with modern technology. These models include the Chieftain, Chief, Scout, Springfield and Roadmaster.
